Signs of the Times

Paul Wilbur
I

just heard the news report this morning of yet another police shooting where a young Black man died. This is so tragic to me because of the devastating impact it has and will continue to have in every life that is touched directly and indirectly. Our culture is being ripped apart by fear, anger, lust, and every kind of evil you can imagine, and some you can’t even imagine. Why, and why now are questions we have to ask ourselves, but we also have to be honest enough to hear the answer.

I am now old enough to collect Social Security and I can tell you that the world, and especially the United States of America has gone through a complete transformation during my lifetime. I grew up in small rural towns in New England where you knew the names of the families wholived around you. I went to school in a two-roomschoolhouse in Derry, New Hampshire with my neighbors. Hot lunches were prepared by our parents in the basement of the school, but the most influential time we spent as students was the first fifteen minutes that opened every day. How so? Every school day began with…are you ready for this…a Bible reading, reciting the Lord’s prayer, and then we would stand, face the U.S. flag hanging in the front of the classroom and recite the Pledge of Allegiance!

Every school day began with…are you ready for this…a Bible reading, reciting the Lord’s prayer, and then we would stand, face the U.S. flag hanging in the front of the classroom and recite the Pledge of Allegiance!

We have told God he is no longer welcome in our schools and then we wonder why our children are being murdered there. We remove the Ten Commandments from our courtrooms and then wonder why there is no justice. We change the meaning and intent of words and institutions that are thousands of years old, and we wonder why there is so much divorce, gender confusion, and a complete lack of individual responsibility and personal discipline. We teach our children that their problems are a direct result of everyone’s prejudice, that they are victims; the government is responsible for their care and well-being. People of faith are mocked and minimalized in our enlightened society and shouted down by a media and education system that is adrift in a sea of moral ambiguity.

The answer? We desperately need to return to the Author and Finisher of our nation and society. Our culture, schools, courts, government, were all founded and based upon the Bible, the Word of God, His principles and precepts, and until we return, repent and ask for His help, the news reports will continue to get darker and darker. Wake up ‘America the Beautiful’, you know where your help comes from; turn back to Him and be saved. A King is coming!

Shalom!
