In August, I started a teaching series called “Foundations” at our monthly First Friday event in Jacksonville, Florida (and online)!
Throughout this series, I’ll be discussing things such as, “Torah and tradition,”…
…”What’s with all the Hebrew?,”…
…”What is a Covenant?,”…
…and much, much more.
If you’re unfamiliar with our monthly First Friday events, you can always check them out live on my Facebook page, or subscribe to my YouTube channel and the video links will be sent directly to your inbox.
At First Fridays, we have dynamic worship alongside strong Biblical teachings centered on the Jewish roots of our faith.
Part one of this series was on the Foundation of the Torah.
The Torah is foundational for all revelation and wisdom. Just consider a few things we learn from the first five books of the Bible:
- Who is the real God and what is His name?
- Who are we in Him and what on earth are we doing here?
- What is a covenant?
- What is grace, faith, and mercy?
- How do we live a fruitful, happy, and victorious life?
- Is there a real Heaven and hell?
- Are angels and demons real?
- Why is the sky blue?
- Why is it that everything that tastes good is fattening?!?
- And so much more…
These might seem basic, but…
…remember when the apostle Paul was dragged before the Sanhedrin?
He was able to get out of a tight squeeze by getting the Pharisees and Sadducees to argue amongst themselves about these very same subjects!
See what happens when you don’t read your Bible?
So the shocking conclusion is, without a firm foundation…
- The gospels and revelations have absolutely no meaning.
- The prophets are religious weirdoes wandering around the land.
- King David had no right to rule over a people or a kingdom.
- There is no such thing as sin.
- God is whomever or whatever you wish to make Him.
…WITHOUT THE REVELATION OF THE TORAH!
Consider this: You contract to build a house.
You go and you see the models.
You pick and choose what you like and pay your deposit.
Then you go to your lot and see that the builders are building the roof on a piece of dirt!
You say to them, “What in the world are you doing?”
They respond, “It seemed right to us and it makes more sense if we start at the top.”
No builder in his or her right mind starts at the top, right?! They start with a firm foundation.
Jesus taught this over and over again. No man builds a house on sand because the winds will blow on it and the tides will come.
What seems to be firm will suddenly shift, and then the house will collapse and destroy anyone trapped inside.
We must have a firm foundation.
Otherwise, even Yeshua himself is some religious guy who appears out of the desert, preaching something to some people and nobody knows what He’s saying or why!
This recap is just giving a small glimpse into all I discussed at our last First Friday event.
If you would like to hear more about why the Torah is still relevant today and is absolutely necessary for our firm foundation, please watch my message on YouTube.
From my family to yours, have a blessed week.
